Milestone development

Milestone development refers to the key skills and abilities children typically gain as they grow—how they move, communicate, think, play, and interact with the world around them. Early identification and support make a big difference in a child’s journey toward independence and confidence.

FINE MOTOR SKILLS

Fine motor skills are the small, precise movements that help children use their hands and fingers to explore, play, and take care of themselves. Fine motor development supports more than just handwriting or crafts — it builds confidence, independence, and success across all parts of a child’s day. Through purposeful practice and encouragement, we build confidence in fine motor abilites.

EMOTIONAL REGULATION

Emotional regulation is the ability to understand, express, and manage feelings in healthy ways. For children, this skill develops over time through connection, practice, and support. It’s what helps them stay calm after frustration, recover from disappointment, and navigate big emotions with confidence. When children learn to regulate their emotions, they’re better able to identify how they feel, choose positive ways to respond, and feel safe expressing themselves — at home, at school, and in the community.

SENSORY REGULATION

Sensory regulation is how our bodies take in and respond to information from the world around us — what we see, hear, touch, taste, smell, and feel through movement. For children, it’s the foundation for staying calm, focused, and comfortable in different environments. Through sensory-based play we teach children how to recognize what their bodies need and use strategies to regulate themselves. Sensory regulation supports attention, emotional control, and overall confidence — helping each child feel safe and successful in their daily world.

Daily life skills

Daily life skills, often called Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), are the everyday tasks that help children grow in independence and confidence. These include things like getting dressed, brushing teeth, feeding themselves, tying shoes, and managing personal routines. Our therapists meet each child where they are — turning daily routines into opportunities for growth and self-esteem. By developing these practical skills, children gain the confidence to take care of themselves in a way they are successful.

feeding

At Divine Pediatrics, feeding skills are guided by sensory-based strategies. This focuses on helping children explore and enjoy a variety of foods and textures through gradual introduction in a positive, stress-free way. Our therapists meet each child where they are — turning mealtimes into opportunities for growth, curiosity, and confidence. By supporting children in building healthy eating habits, they gain the skills and comfort to approach food with confidence.
